Joris Skudra, a documentary filmmaker, began his career in his teens in Lithuania. He discovered the magic of extended observation, transforming real-life stories into narratives more captivating than fiction. Now, with his 'docs4life' hat on, he explores unconventional stories from the Caribbean to Japan.
His documentaries delve into the diverse expressions of humanity, infusing humor to connect viewers with shared empathy. Joris’s films have been commissioned by Bloomberg Originals, Bacardi, Atlas Obscura, Great Big Story, while his independent work was presented at IDFA, Clermont Ferrand and FLICKER's. He is currently in the production of creating two long-form documentary films—one about cyborgs and another featuring a funky photographer.
2019 - 2024, directing, shooting, editing numerous short form non-fiction work for Bacardi, Bloomberg Originals, Al Jazeera, Guidepost Montessori, Great Big Story, CNN, Patron amongst others;
2024, selected to participate in la Selva Coop, creating a film together with Werner Herzog.
2023, presenting debut feature length film, "In Focus" (prod. Juste Michailinaitė) at IDFA, BelDocs, Baltic Sea Docs, Vilnius Meeting Point (Best Pitch Award), currently in post-production;
2022, "Wodrplay in Georgia", experimental short, no premiere yet (maybe a bit too experimental);2023, "70%Selfless", short documentary, premiere: Clermont-Ferrand Short Film Market, Flicker's, BARCIF;
2021, participating in 6-months long Sony Mentorship Program;
